I really like this rod and reel combo; however, I did put a DC reel on the rod. It's super hard to find a decent 2-piece casting rod and this one came with an extra tip section. It's durable, smooth operation, light weight. It looks and feels good in your hand. Their spinning rod combo is also a really decent combo. It is labeled as a medium/heavy, but it is more towards the heavy.
I'll admit I ordered this with reservations. First, I'm only slightly familiar with the brand, although other products from them have, so far, been good. Secondly, I've struggled with less-than-premium baitcasting combos in the past which is mostly on me and my lack of practice with them but I still didn't know how this one would go. Spoiler alert, I wish I had done this sooner! First impressions on this, the reel operates smoothly and all the functions are crisp. Drag is also smooth and settings are easy to adjust. The rod and reel seem size appropriate and balanced. I spooled up with 15lb Super Slick V2 braid and it laid onto the spool evenly! After I got it set up I gave it a few casts on land, fully expecting to have a few birds nests to pick out, to my surprise, it casts effortlessly and no nest!!
On to the water, I baited up for largemouth bass with a Texas-rigged worm. The first cast landed on the nose of a bass and I immediately felt the bite, the rod is plenty sensitive and had plenty of backbone to set the hook. I have since done this 75-100 more times and I think I can say I'm happy with this combo; I'll add it to my arsenal. At this price, I consider this a value and will likely add a few others rigged for other baits. Nicely done!
This fishing rod and reel combo is great for the price. The drag is easy to setup, the resistance is easy, and the magnetic break is also easy to adjust. I have har quite a few bait casters at this point and found that a lot of them just birdnest so easy. This one after a little tinkering with the settings works great and only birds nests every now and then. The rod feels like it's nice and strong but still light weight. Overall the setup seems quality for the price when comparing to the 300+ setups that obviously beat it in performance but not price to performance.
